08/2022 - Not really a newbie but...
It has been a few years since I actually found myself anywhere near the DR (was going to make a trip in March 2020 but of course that wasn't to be!).
Am thinking of a trip to Sosua from the UK later this year (2022) and logged onto the ISOC forum for the first time in a few years today. This has been an odd experience and it feels like I am missing something - seems like everything is locked/dead and there is little if any activity on most of the DR/Sosua threads.
Where has everyone gone? Am I looking in the right places??
Help!!!

About 20 members died over the years, another few 100 retired.

It is that guy from north of the Thames again. How are you?
Yes, things are very different now in the DR. Of the former main guys, most of those still active have dispersed to SE Asia or Colombia.
But you can still have a great time in the DR. Thousands of pretty Haitians and Venezuelans have come here because of economic troubles at home.

BJ received a free Ukrainian railroad pass today (the hint:eek:)
Ben Shockley: "On a scale of one to ten, I'd have to give her a two, and that's because I haven't seen a one before." (The Gauntlet, 1977)
Since police harassment goes on, your 2 or 3 on an imaginable scale is what you can get in Sosua now at elevated prices (3000 pesos is the normal short time quote)
Travel to Colombia or Brazil.

I wish I could find a few pretty Haitians down here where I'm living. Few and far between.

Hello mate. Things are fine up Angel way. Hope things are still good for you over there. In the age of Tinder it is actually quite hard to find time to get away now! But there are some old friends and such like I would like to see so am hoping for a trip to Sosua later this year. Haitianas have always been my thing so it is good to know that that line of activity is still around!
Do you know where the nightlife in Sosua is these days? I've heard things have moved to the other end of Pedro Clisante now, away from the beach. But I'm not quite sure when I can make it over (looks like I will have to come via Switzerland too!) so I haven't looked into it properly...
