Peurto Plata Malecon Restaurants
Does anyone know of a descent reataurant near La Sirena on the malecon? The info on here is a little dated--as it is not a hot topic.
I am meeting a girl at the la sirena when i go down in october. I want to find a restaurant that is close by. Also if anyone knows of a restaurant that has wifi will be even better.
Thanks for the help.

If it's just lunch you are having, take her upstairs in La Sirena. They also have free wifi.:D

La Sirena restaurant is a self-service canteen. Basic food at cheap prices. A lot of locals and gringos like it. If you just want to feed her it will do fine. If you want to impress her, go somewhere else.
A word of warning. I suffered my only case of food poisoning in six years in the DR from eating there and I have a good idea why. They bring out the food in open top platters and it suffers the usual drawback of customers breathing, sneezing and coughing over them all day. Being Dominicans they won't bother to turn their heads away. That is bad enough, but nothing we don't suffer in our own countries to some extent. What I think upset my stomach is that as the day goes on they continually top up the platters with new food from the kitchen, rather than replacing them altogether. This means that fragments of food from the first servings remain in the platter all day under the warmth of the spot-lights. I am sure some of that stuff must turn bad and affect the rest.
Having said that, I have civilized ex-pat friends who eat there regularly and vouch for the place so maybe I was just unlucky.
Most locals say that the restaurant above the rival supermarket, Tropical, is a bit more upmarket. Tropical is 5 minutes walk from the back entrance of La Sirena.
If you want a proper restaurant, there are some good ones a 25 peso moto ride away. But we are talking a whole different price range.
Los Barcos on the Malecon has a good wifi connection. I think La Sirena does too.

There are a couple restaurants on the Malacon closer to the old fort (West end). Has anyone gone there? I've driven by many times but never stopped in. I've seen people get sandwiches at the huts located along the beach side of the Malacon near Crystals (East-end going toward Sosua). A couple huts seemed busy with gringos.

Seven that I can think of. They are all mid-price, dearer than La Sirena Canteen but cheaper than a "proper" restaurant.
Re: Peurto Plata Malecon Restaurants
La Lena is pretty good; but, it is not located on the malecon. It is located
beside Tropical supermarket and across the street from Scotia Bank. It
serves pizza, sandwiches, chicken, burgers, pasta, etc.. If you are
interested in going just take a taxi from la Sirena. It should only cost
you about 50 pesos.
If you look up Puerta Plata in google maps and look for La Sirena, then
you can get an idea of how close it is to La Sirena.

You mean 50 pesos or less for a motoconcho(2 people plus driver), not a taxi:confused: It's only a 5 minute walk, or a one minute motoconcho ride:wink: For the OP, Tropical and La Lena are next to each other, and both have excellent wifi as well.

Why the hell would I want to eat Domino's? I can get that here.
I enjoy eating different things I cannot get here at home, and I also enjoy my chicken with rice and beans. When I went to Santo Domingo, I enjoyed many different Dominican dishes, and always look forward to going back and get more!

Tell that to the Dominicans.
Hell, I've been eating Rice and beans forever. Served with chicken, it's one of my favorites, especially when it's prepared by someone who is a good cook.
