I always use Jennys or western union!!!!
best exchange rates and always the safest
bump . . . how much, when, and where ? ? ? I might just change @ the airport . . .
in the older days, the Europe hotel was always a recommendation to exchange money. Is it no longer a good place to do exchanges? thanks
The best rate in that neighborhood is still Banco Santo Cruz, bring a xerox of your passport. The cambista on the street right in front of Tanja's old bakery before Lou's will come close!
One door to the left of North Coast Diver's pays a fair rate, if you are stuck late at night, exchange to the right of Sosua Life, better than using USD in the club.
http://www.agentedecambioboya.com/tasas_cambio.asp is usually quite accurate.

Do not change money at the airport unless you are sure of the current rates from ATMs, Banks and cambios. I checked the rate about 2 weeks ago and it was only 30 to 1 at the airport. 33.85 in Charamicos at the cambio and at the ATMs. I would have lost about 0.11 on the dollar if I used the airport. Bad idea!
Beads you seem to spend an AWFUL lot of time in Los Charamicos lately, do I hear wedding bells soon?

Jayman...if you have time, go to this place right across the street from Brugal Rum factory in Puerto Plata. They gave me 33.85 to a dollar, see the picture below and bring an Id. This is the best exchange I've found so far on the north coast. Don't mind those fellas outside.

What is the current exchange rate in puerto plata sosua are i see 1 USD = 35.2960 DOP on xe.com
caribe tours in puerto plata was 34.5 a few weeks ago and then 34.9 now it should be 35 or 35.1
WHere do you think I would get the actual rate on xe.com?
In a bank in miami before I fly to the DR or just wait till I get to sosua?
As I learned from Choir Boy, best rates always at the Supermercado. I got 34.7 everytime I was there just three weeks ago. I've never seen competitive rates at the airport.
Hi where is the Supermercado?
Rick
Hey guys! I have always said that Western Union gives a very good rate. Last night (11-17-2008), I got 35 to 1.
thanks guys
SOunds like WU is the way. I imagine there probably all over the place down there in sosua?
I hit the bANK as soon as you leave imigration on your left side where all the taxi drivers wait in POP airport. The exchange places in the US aiports and in the DR are total ripoffs
The Rate will always be changing. I usually change cash when in DR and what has worked for me is when Im at the exchange I talk with the person there saying what the rate is. So they know what I expect and that I am up on the correct rate.
In sosua I use the exchange next to latinos, but I will try WU next time
