If you're going to Blackbeards you can also fly into Puerto Plata (POP) which is much closer but more expensive.
Or you can fly into the Santiago airport (STI) which is a little cheaper but a long taxi ride. At least you see a little bit of the country on your way to the hotel.

Don't go to Punta Cana. There's nothing there but a bunch of tourist traps where wandering off the grounds is frowned upon and there is no bringing Chicas to the rooms unless it's some drunk tourista from the resort.
How comfortable is he with chasing tail in your presence? You may want to stick to the more mundane activities during the day (fishing trip, sightseeing) and let him go his own way in the evenings and hang out with Guys his age. By all accounts, a place like Blackbeards would be perfect for that. Good luck.
