    Re: Jaguar Apart Studios

I can tell you now it is a nice place. I stayed there for a week and had no issues. The owner was friendly, the staff was pretty cool and there is a guy at the door all night. If you have any questions let me know. The bathroom I had was a little small, especially the shower but it was workable. The only other thing I would mention is that the owner does not mind you bringing 1-2-3-4 ladies to your room but that you are discreet and act like you have some home training. He does have other guests that are not mongers and I am sure that they are his bread and butter guests. Late night loud parties are not good UNLESS the other guests are of the same mindset. Again, if I can answer any questions, let me know. I would stay there when my Marriott hook up is not available.

    DR Kush,

Did you do any recon on the Jaguar? I'm looking to book and my preference is to stay in Gazcue.

Walking distance to El Conde, about 2-3km depending at what end you are at. The area around the Casona Dorada and Duke of Wellington Hotels (situated right across from each other) is closer. The Hotel Jaguar is about 3-4 blocks further away and close to the Jarragua Casino. I just spoke to the owner of the Jaguar, seems like an OK guy, but I'd prefer getting a guest's opinion.

    Hotel Jaguar

If you have been following Cheeno's post about the Hotel Jaragua, he makes note that the best rooms face the garden. So if you were to walk through the garden to the rear entrance of the hotel, you would be standing on Avenida Independencia. Across the road from the rear entrance is Calle Hermanos Deligne. Walk up the road about 2 blocks and on the right hand side is the Hotel Jaguar. It is a small (18 room), non-descript building, with a pink and white facade and balconies, and great amenities. The owner is a Dominican guy named Rafael. He lived for a number of years in the US (New Jersey?) and speaks fluent English.

Each room has a kitchenette equipped with 2 burner stove, refrigerator, kitchen sink, cooking utensils etc. So its great for your culinary adept chicas or just for snacks, beer and the like. There is a supermarket about 3 blocks away that has all the necessary food and beverage items.

Every room has a wardrobe with room safe, desk, WiFi internet access and satellite TV (at no extra cost), A/C and ceiling fan. The bathroom is equipped with a shower; excellent hot water under nice pressure. No electrical issues account the building has a planta. Telephones in each room with free calls available to US/Canada.

The hotel has a rooftop patio with gas barbeque, washrooms, shower, lounge chairs and a great panoramic view of the city. Excellent venue for small parties, get-togethers etc.

The hotel is chica friendly, has 24 hour security, daily maid service and laundry take out and delivery. The neighbourhood is quiet without a lot of traffic. Rooms go for between $45-70 USD/day with no tax if you pay cash or 5% fee for using a credit card. The room I stayed in was $63 USD/day. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the Girl's House, etc; a 10 minute walk to the Hotels Casona Dorada/Duque de Wellington/Navarro; a 20 minute walk to the Hotel Discovery and the top end of El Conde; a 30 minute walk to the bottom end of El Conde (Plaza de La Palomas where the Hard Rock Cafe and Hotel El Conde de la Penabla are located).

Please disregard the date stamp on the photos as I forgot to turn it off. I was there from September 11th to 18th.

You can visit their website at www.jaguarapartstudios.com and/or call Rafael at 809-924-2400.

This is very nice, and convenient to everything. If only it had a small pool to cool off in ,it would be perfect. Thanks for the info. This is definitely an option in the fiture. Only reason we stay(and overpay) at the larger hotels is they have the pool and poolside bar.

Never stayed there but live 2 blocks away. It is around the block from El Conuco if you dig dominican food and a "tipico" atmosphere. The supermarket is La Cadena on Cervantes. I just noticed they have Tropicana orange juice. I had been buying floridas best at pricemart but La Cadena is closer.

It is a shame the deli bar across from O&M is closed as that was a great place to flirt with colege chicas. the colmado next to it is still open.

Plaza De Palomas is really called Parque Colon in cas a taxi driver doesn't know plaza de palomas. . .. . many do.

Mr williams 52 was right across the street from this place.

You obviously know your shit!! El Conuco is OK but a little pricey for Dominican type food. They have a nightly buffet, but it costs between $20-25 USD.

The Tropicana juice they sell at La Cadena is not 100%, it's a blend from concentrate; not the real thing that you can buy in US/Canada. Go figure!!

The best place to check out the college chicas is in the sidewalk cafes/bars on Avenida Bolivar around the Calle Cervantes area. but you probably already know that because you live there!!

    Re: Hotel Jaguar

Yep Bolivar is all good. Many chicas from Centu and O&M head to Bolivar for the publico back home. Of course I can sit on my balcony drinking a grande and watch the ones from O&M walk right by. . . .. the deli bar across fro O&M used to be great for eye candy and on thrusday nights watch the jeepetas pull up to pick up the "novia". . . .I refrained from hitting on PYM chicas as I live a block away. . . . no need for surprise visits;-)

I still like the tropicana betetr than 100% Rico in DR but I ma weird when it comes to food and stuff like that. I don't really eat Dominican food and el conuco is over priced and touristy. . . . .but chicas that have not been there LOVE it. . .. I usually have a few beers and maybe grilled chicken with rice and watch the "show". . . . .

Just up the road from hotel jaguar o right is a VERY mellow bar, that have singers doing bolero, balladas and all sorts of romantic stuff. I have been a few times and at 45 may have been the youngest in the place. . . . .except of course for my "date". . . . . .if you are with a chica that digs romantic songs it is worth a stop for a beer. . . .. .to get her in the mood!

Is that $20-25 per person or dinner for 2?

Heh heh, sorry, but you guys are all missing the show when it comes to orange juice.

There's nothing better than the FRESHLY SQUEEZED orange juice at Supermercado Nacional. They have the sweetest, best tasting orange juice I have had in all my years here.

I buy two half gallons twice a week. I LOVE the stuff. They also have the Floridas Best Pink Grapefruit juice, my other favorite.

I eat like a pig in El Conuco, and I have NEVER spent anywhere near that much. Are you tossing down cold ones like a maniac?
If you think it's love try not paying in the morning..

Unfortunately it's per person. That's why I think its pricey. However, they have soup, salad, rolls and breadsticks, an OK selection of main courses and desserts and, of course, it's all you can eat.

I think you'll have to do a return engagement to El Conuco!. The price I quoted for the buffet definitely does not include drinks. I perused the menu very closely and when I discovered that all the main courses were PLUS 24% TAX and the buffet was tax included, I had the buffet instead for only about $2-4 USD difference.

You are so right about the freshly squeezed OJ. It's wonderful, but look out when mangos are in season, that's my fav!!!

This room on the second floor overlooked the street but no real noise. Nice place, great site, helpful staff and owner is nice guy. Small kitchen area and when I couldn't get online, the owner got me a CAT cable. I paid $50 or $55 a night in August.
