    manajuana
I had this in Santo Domingo. It is a bottle with a mix of local herbs. Add 1/3 rum, 1/3 red wine and 1/3 honey. This depends on your taste. I believe
you should let it sit for 2 weeks. I also read that the first few batches may
be a little bitter because the leaves and sticks may be a little "green" when
they were put into the bottle. I also have read that you ca keep refilling it
up to 7 years. You can buy it in a bottle dry or you can watch on the sidewlk stands and get it in a little ziplock bag. Do not know where to get it in the states.

I've seen it somewhere. But they all taste different...even in the D.R.. Everyone has their own formula for the concoction.

If you buy it down there to bring home, don't buy the dry product or it will be confiscated at the airport. You can only bring it back if it is mixed with rum etc.

I bought the dry stuff at Playero supermarket on the main road in Sosua. threw it in my checked bag and didnt say i had it at the airport in new york , no problem. first batch is kinda bitter so you should mix it and pour it out after about a week. i make it with a jar of honey , about a cup of gin and halfway decent rum for the rest. bought barbancourt last time which is haitian rum and it came out great.

Re: Can I buy this in the States???

I had my first one at Seacrets in Sosua. It was excellent! Made my nipples hard. I ended up doing two shots of it that night.

I had some really bad (bitter) ones at other locations (BB, FoD), but overall I like the stuff.

On my last trip, a chica who works at BB, cannot remember her name, gave me a bag of the dry components. She also gave me some basic instruction on how to make it. I bought some more of the dry ingredients at the duty free at POP.

When I got home, I did some research on the Internet and found a recipe that I like. I brewed a couple of batches and found a combination that I like.

For me, the key is the Dominican vanilla extract and a good brown sugar. I also use a good rum (Zacapa or Zeyer) and a decent red wine like Ravens Wood Shiraz.

    To each his own....

New, dry Mamajuana mix is washed first, usually with a cheap wine, the cheaper the better. Fill the bottle, let it sit for 3-4 days, then pour it out.
If this is not done, it will remain bitter for quite a while.

The most common recipe for mamajuana among Dominicans is usually three fingers of honey first, then fill it up with White Rum. It should then be allowed to sit and soak for a day or so. Once a bottle is 'broken in', you can drink the mixture immediately.

Brugal is the rum most commonly used, since everyone knows, you drink Brugal when you want to fuck or fight. And of course, everyone drinks Mamajuana because it will put lead in your pencil.

And lastly, in order for Mamajuana to be complete, it needs to have a piece of dried turtle dick inserted as part of the mix. Ask any vendor if their Mamajuana has turtle dick, and they'll all say yes. Chances are very good that it does not.

I have met folks that have used the same bottle for years, which supposedly makes it better as the mix ages. Others have bottles they mix and put away for many months, to allow it to reach it's maximum "potency".

For the OP, a properly mixed Mamajuana should never taste "nasty", it should be sweet and smooth..
If you think it's love try not paying in the morning..

Re: Can I buy this in the States???

I brought a bottle (1.75 liter Brugal bottle) back a couple trips back already made and had no problems thru agriculture or customs. Got it from Ad who runs the Black Box on the beach. He makes the best I've ever had and it is the only place I will drink it. but he got his bottles (wood) from Boca Chica. He's been using the same bottles for years. The one he gave me was of Sosua origin and so far it shows no signs of mellowing.
He taught me to make it by filling it about a third full with Brugal Anejo, a couple fingers of honey to taste and then cheap red wine. I have a video of him making it if I can ever figure out how to load it. I 've been trying to make it here in Miami but the first couple of batches didn't suit my taste. Came out more like cough syrup. So this last trip, I brought back a couple bottles of the cheap Dominican wine he uses (La Fuerza) and Delifruit Miel (honey). We'll see how it turns out. also, he only ages it for a couple days but I'm going to try to age it for a couple weeks and see if that helps.
There is a nice restaurant in Coral Gables that serves a mamajuana that is with white rum and, of course, if you go to the Dominican part of Miami, you can get a variety of mamajuanas. Salud!
Ah but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!

Most trips to Sosua include an evening with friends at el Toro Resturant. And they serve a complimentary shot of MJ after the meal.

Personally I can't stand the stuff, it's just too sweet for my tastes. I'll take a sip to join in on the toast, then pawn the rest off on my chica.

My favorite ingredient in it: ground up turtle testicles....it's a FACT, dude....supposed to be a powerful aphrodisiac...

SO DON"T FORGET TO PUT SOME TURTLE TESTICLES IN IT to be TRUE MAMAJUANA, yum, yum.....

They seem to regard it as liquid Viagra.

Personally, I'd rather buy Elevex at the Farmacia next to the Bon Ice Cream Place - that way I get to see the hottie behind the counter!

I dont like it with red wine, i think they do it because its cheaper for wine as compared to the price of rum. try it with the gin and rum. just a cup of gin, a 12 ounce bottle of honey the rest rum. i use good rum so it taste better. when i use brugal i think it taste like shit too, try a better rum.

Yeah but i gotta admit, last month when i landed at POP and they had a lil' honey handing out cups of Brugal, it was a nice way to kick off the vacation.

(asked her if she also gave a kiss along with the cup but all i got was a smile and "aye no" ..... at least i tried).
Bitch you wasn't with me shootin' in the gym ...

Re: Can I buy this in the States???

I always do shots of mamajuana, whenever in DR.
Yes different bars make it differently, with their parts honey, rum and wine.
Some more honey for a smoother taste aka Passions... or less honey moree harsh aka Classico's .
Seacrets was in the middle...a good mixrure of all parts.
But that's just my taste's and opinion.

If you buy a bottlew of the 'dry' herbs...You can mix in Rum etc. in DR, then it will pass thru customs.

I had a bottle of the 'dry' mamajuana, and a bottle of the basic liquid mamajuna, the 'dry' bottle got flagged in my check in luggage.
So the security guard, openeed my luggagae and took out the dry bottle...He then took my reg liquid mamajuana, and poured some into the dry bottle...to make it a 'reg' mamajuana now, no longer just argiculture, as it contains liquid.
So I was able to bring both bottle back to NYC.

Apparently the herbs and dry product need to have liquid in their bottle, so it is now consider a 'drink' and not argiculture...
