Has anyone stayed here recently? I looked through the threads but couldn't see anything since last year.

I prefer to stay that end of town, and with the noise and other comments about Piero I thought I would try this place out.

The place is comfortable and clean. But don't get a king sized bed because it's two singles put together and that sucks.

Ive stayed there many times, i always get a king size bed, and have never had that problem. but i always get the newer rooms. they actually have had the most comfortable beds that ive slept in , in DR.

I just left there. I was referred to this spot by Psriches (aka "the Obama of Sosua"). The thing I liked the most was being able to swim some laps in the mornings. The breakfast was only continental, but the food overall is pretty good and my room was comfy and cool. My room had a safe with a key and I had to leave a deposit to use it. Security was pretty good, but I was able to bring in a few chicas to my room that I couldn't at other places because they had ID issues. Basically, at Colibri I brought the chicas in and took them str8 to my room and never went to the front desk and no one ever asked me for anything.

If Monique isn't in town, and i didn't see her at all all week, it's not the same.

The pool was filthy. It was never cleaned. You never saw that before.

My room didn't get cleaned one day and i talked to Juan about it in the afternoon. He assured me it'd be cleaned later in the day. It wasn't. When i got back later and saw it i confronted him and he gave me some bullshit line about a housekeeper calling in sick and even one of his security guys calling in sick, like i give a fuck.

Dude should have changed the fuckin' sheets himself if he had to, that's how you keep customers. I just walked away from him as he was giving me his bullshit excuse cuz i already don't like that motherfucker and nothing positive would have come out of staying there and listening to the rest of his nonsense so i just broke the fuck out before i blew my lid.

I'm already looking into alternatives for the next trip but if i were to stay there again i would never do it if i wasn't sure Monique would be around.

The other thing i failed to mention were the repeated power outages.

This NEVER happened before over there and i'm sure it's due to all the new construction both in and around the hotel, but these weren't 10 minutes outages ... i'm talking about HOURS!!! Happened 3 times in the 8 days i stayed there. Not cool. First time was in the morning, so i had to shower with cold water before heading out for the day and no lights to shave. Didn't kill me, but not something i enjoy. Last 2 times were in the afternoons after i'd come back from the beach ... again, quick cold shower and heading immediately back out to Fred's or LP's. No lights or AC ... no point in sitting in that room for 2 seconds more than absolutely necessary.

Thinking of hitting Samana next trip and skipping Sosua for most of the trip anyway.

Anyone done an extended stay in Samana??

Just got back from staying at colibri. Have to say I was impressed. Took a superior room for summer discount special of $48. Proper king bed, not 2 singles pushed together, new bathroom with decent shower, good ac. All around very good.

Has anyone stayed in either of the apartments at Colibri? The Colibri website says the one-bedroom apartment has a street view; is this a negative for excessive noise/other reasons in that location? I'm not heavy into mongering but I'm sure I'll pull a few times while there. Any negatives at Colibri in this regard?

Also, I'm thinking of enrolling in the Holiday Language School for a few hours a day while I'm there. Have any of you guys done this or other language schools in Sosua/Puerto Plata area? Opinions on the school and also any other walking-distance rentals that might be better would be appreciated? I might should make a new thread for this question but I'll let it fly here and see what happens.

ask for apartement #73 cause 74 sucks.

Also 73 as 2 doors 1 that takes you tru the lobby and one outback that you bypass lobby, very nice if you dont want anyone at the hotel to know about your business.

I have spoken to the teacher there several times he looks like a nice guy, but I never taken any lessons cause I speak spanish.
