Thumbs Up Re: La Romana, Bayahibe and San Pedro de Macoris, February 2013

I sent a night in Higuay once and wandered around looking for a decent disco/carwash/bar and didn't find anything. I now understand that it's a really spread out scene and you pretty much need to know where you're going or have a guide.

Any insight on where to go for chicas in Higuay?

I visited around 5 bars that night, one was an outdoor wh_rehouse type place, I imagine (exterior booth type bar, tables and chairs in a big open courtyard and rooms to the side, fat ass waitresses walking around. Another outdoor bar where the brugal photo was taken, which had a small dance floor. Hotel Don Carlos has two bars, one was full, Karaoke. There is a street with outdoor chairs and tables with bars/restaurants (see attached photo). I did not hang out there that night. The sports bar in the attached photo I did not visit that night.

What I did in La Romana when I first visited was pay a motoconcho guy to show me the bars and I would follow him in the rental. A friend of a friend showed me around in Higuey. There was some celebration or something, horses in the street that night.

Day of the week might factor in as well, Fridays and Saturdays usually being busier.

I think I stayed n Hotel Don Carlos! It was also near the Cathedral and the parada for the bus to Santo Domingo....but I paid $25...perhaps 6 years ago...

Checked into the Hotel Don Carlos maybe around 1am or 2am. Room rate was about $50US per night. Years ago.

From the Hotel Don Carlos to the Basílica Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia is about a 4 block walk, which is what I did when I visited, rear entrance.

Basic room at the Hotel Don Carlos, I forget what I paid, probably under 1500 pesos. Had food in the open air bar/restaurant, it was good.

    Juan Dolio, Caribe Paraiso Apartments

Two buildings on the main public beach in Juan Dolio. Colmado, bars and restaurants very close. Secure parking. Always nice when I stayed there, clean. Convenient if you have an amiga in san pedro de macoris, which is 10-15 minutes away, easy drive.

Probably a few casas de citas in Juan Dolio. Saw advertisements for one called Sandra (I believe) last time I was in Juan Dolio about a year ago. Before that, visited a nice casa de cita in a nice house with a pool inside the interior courtyard. Weekends Juan Dolio gets packed. Seems some people were saving money on cabanas, from the balcony view of the room toward the sea, seems some couples were getting to know each other at night, in the water and maybe on the beach. LOL.

    http://caribeparaisojuandolio.com/index.html

Rates starting at $35US per night.

Jao how is the beach in Juan Dolio using lets say the famous Sosua Beach as a reference. Comparing the quality of sand and if you know sea bottom when entering the water, sharp rocks etc. if any ?

It looks nice and I'm thinking of trying it out.

Juan Dolio the public beach in the photos in my prior post, if you enter straight ahead with the road and bars behind you, water gets deep fast. Some rocks mixed with the sand once you are in the water. Boca Chica is much safer. Off to the side of that same beach in the Juan Dolio photos is safer. Other parts of Juan Dolio it is safer (some parts have a reef that breaks the waves).

I like to swim where the water is deep and has some waves. But anyone going to the public beach in juan dolio (in the prior photos) for a first time, should be careful.

Sosua Beach stretches for about a mile with some rocky areas, and sandy areas, being in a bay like setting, playa sosua is safer (probably better snorkeling off the beach in playa sosua to see fish, barracuda, needle fish and others). Juan Dolio stretches for over a mile. Only a few bars face the beach in juan dolio, then residences or hotels (playa guayacanes is adjacent to juan dolio). Playa Sosua has various businesses along the beach.

Sand seems to be different colors. Ocean-water for Playa Sosua and Seawater for Juan Dolio.

Photos from an apartment in costa del sol, juan dolio taken at 6am, showing a different part of Juan Dolio beach.

    Some freelancers in Juan Dolio.

Boca Chica is 10-15 minutes away, Santo Domingo less than an hour, San Pedro de Macoris 10-15 minutes. Two golf courses in Juan Dolio, three all inclusive hotels. New Condo buildings. Roads are in good shape and the main road is lit up good. Two casinos (DeCameron and the Costa Caribe). Maybe a few p4p venues. Showgirls was fun in Juan Dolio, dancers would dance nude on the platform (showgirls is closed in Juan Dolio, maybe still open in santo domingo).

This is the best site for info.

The open air bar in plaza chocolate on the beach road (near the costa caribe all inclusive hotel and casino), might have some freelancers.

These beach photos were taken within a few blocks of the caribe paraiso (apartment rentals) buildings, which sit on the beach facing the Sea.

Jetblue has many flights into Dom Rep, some arrive early in the morning into Santo Domingo. I have in the past driven from SDQ airport very early in the morning, went to the public beach in Juan Dolio which has parking. Parked the car there and went for a swim or laid out on the sand. Usually Politur there, beach bar has people (later in the day), and you can see the car from the water and beach. One morning a photographer was doing a photo shoot for Claro with a group of pretty dominicana models there.

    Weekends much more busy.

Barcelo Santo Domingo club premium rooms I like because no extra fee for early check-in.

Main 4 lane road in Juan Dolio is called Boulevard, good lighting at night.

Photos from over a year ago.

Thanks. I had no clue about the room rentals.

Some photos I took in Sosua years ago showing other than the main beach.

    Juan Dolio

Juan Dolio busier on the weekends. Some people bring their dogs on a leash to the beach.

Barcelo Capella All Inclusive Hotel is about $120US per night for two people, all you can eat and drink, some live shows. Not the most modern or up to date all inclusive hotel, but friendly people there, can be fun. Take an amiga for a night or two. Sunday checkout had long lines.

Restaurants 5 minutes walking from the Barcelo Capella, including a bar/mini-market/pharmacy that offered free wifi and karaoke some nights. Banco Popular a two minute walk from the Barcelo Capella Hotel.

Place was nice when I stayed there. They have two buildings, one is a three story building, where the office is located and the other building is about 1/2 block away (2 floor building). Pots, pans, plates, knives and forks in the kitchen and the thing to make coffee on the stove. Colmado 1/2 half a block away. Small popular Italian restaurant near the parking facing the beach.

Some sexi mamis in San Pedro de Macoris, 10-15 minutes away. Boulevard is a block away with gua guas for San Pedro de Macoris, Boca Chica and Santo Domingo.

New waterpark opening soon between Juan Dolio and Boca Chica.

Showgirls was half a block from Caribe Paraiso. Nude dancing on the platform. Showgirls no longer there.

    Photos from Showgirls, Juan Dolio.
