Manicure and pedicure salons closed on the beach

    From Sosua news:

A few days ago the police also closed the manicure and pedicure salons on the beach of Sosúa. The owners of these businesses were checked for establishment documents and professional qualifications and when in default, the shops were closed. In Sosúa and surroundings, many families depend on the income from these small businesses. So many families are again plunged into deep poverty for these closures. We write 'again' because the recently closed 16 massage parlors and the closure of El Toro bar / nightclub also duped many families.

Why the hell would they close these places? They are mostly older women just trying to make a few bucks. Are they trying to make poverty worse in this country? Azz backwards....everything is Azz backwards.

    RAM - you're right.

    WHY on earth do this?

So - this is not about sex is it? I dont even think the girls use the beach mani/pedi places - so there is not even a connection there.
This must be about raising the standards of the town.

Pretty fucked up shit when those business dont cause any complaints of tourists at all?

Could be a health issue, what sanitation practices do they use? Do they sanitize their equipment after they use it on somebody?

Agreed. They should look at the vendors walking the beach selling food....or for that matter, every restaurant on the beach...I would think there is more hazards to human health going on in those joints or with that shrimp/oyster guy than somebody with a file scratching down gnarly toenails.

If anything, the mani-pedi spots cater to the "tourist" that they are looking to reel in... Doesn't make any sense...

They want to lower the crime rate, but they are closing legit businesses from earning... What are they to do now? So fuckin stupid!

    Makes perfect sense to me.

They are unlicenced, unregulated, undocumented and illegal businesses.

Why the hell should they be allowed to ply their trade under those circumstances against say another business that has complied with ALL the regulations, invested something in whatever permits they require and probably pay taxes too.

Does anyone really support this type of operation in their home towns????????????????????

Seems to me, most small businesses in the DR are unlicensed, unregulated, undocumented and illegal businesses.

Bingo. Level the playing field. Shut down the illegals, and it's more business for the people that do it according to the rules. Get the illegals working for the legals.

I'm no pedi expert but I have seen a lady light a fire burning paper towel, and then put the tools in the fire. I thought she was nuts or maybe doing a magic trick until I realized she was just sterilizing her clippers

Emailed Madam Mayor after reading this story. Why are you trying to kill that fly on your forehead with a hammer?

Do I support these type of operations in my home town - no.

BUT - Come on WW - this is part of the CHARM of the North Coast.

When I mentioned to Wayland that we are 50/50 on Mombasa or Sosua - he said go to Mombasa - our memories of that fun little town will be spoilt by whats going on.

And - of course - you are right in what you say above - I know you are right. I just really really dont like it.

As per above, I'm beginning to think Mombasa is where the future is for me....wish it wasn't so damn far.
