From a bar in Boca Chica, to the Black Box on the beach, to Rancho Tipico, to Barrio Bar, to City Lights, to High Caribe, to Punta Cana on the beach. Not necessarily in that order and probably some other ventures

Yeah, I guess. Just can't help thinking that a couple of years back he ran one of the most popular, successful Bar/restaurant in Sosua. If it weren't for the powers that be messing with him, he'll still be there today.

    BS...

You might be too young/inexperienced to remember "Black Box"; the most successful beach bar in its days.
Out of that grew Rancho Tipico, and Citylights...

How much is the overhead to run a small beach bar in the daytime vs. the cost of a night time venue with all the bells and whistles?

Smaller staff and stock, the electricity for the fridge, a few lights, maybe a permit cost of some kind, ordering the beer and spirits from the supplier (s), and I imagine a few other odds and ends.

Word gets out about the new place, having a few sexy and friendly chicas out front to draw in the crowd, providing decent music, and an overall welcoming and relaxing vibe, you just never know. Sosua gets a lot of returning customers but also new folks coming in with no connection to Ad's previous ventures, so a chance to start fresh with a new batch of potential customers.

If someone is backing this venture, it must be someone willing to take a chance on Ad's ability to put out a good product, in this case, hospitality, and carve out a niche customer base to get it going.

Despite any personal feelings one might have against Ad, I wouldn't take it for granted that this will fail. The Black Box flourished for a reason, people wanted to go there because they knew they would have a good time.

He could apply the same recipe for success he had then to this new spot, though because of the location, I think it might be a greater challenge to do so.

Being further back from the water and among the souvenir shops isn't the most prime beach location.

But I guess we'll see how it goes for him.

He is the energizer bunny running on somebody's else fuel. Been ok with most of my interactions with him. Hopefully he has sobered up and realized he has to do something useful in life.

Judging from the picture that spot looks like a small hole in the wall.

From what I see here, that's exactly what it is. But that certainly beats a small hole in the ground.

Your right in that he can likely get it going and operate it for very little money

my guess is that his girlfriend might be financing him but he is a smooth talker so he could have enticed some “private” loans.

I didnt know ad in the black box days. The current version has been knocked down a few rungs for sure

he always seems to bounce back but I doubt this particular venture will be there long term

Yeah, thats why I said we'll just have to wait and see. I admit my experience in going to his venues in the past are quite limited, as someone who has visited Sosua once or twice a year for a week or two each time. But in seeing both his former beach bar and Rancho Tipico during the good times, Ad certainly knew the ingredients as to promote a spot and make it popular.

I would imagine having many attractive Haitianas working for him was a big draw as well, with many guys preferring them over Dominicanas. But as far as his day to day dealings, his personality quirks, his temper tantrums, etc....I will gladly defer to those guys who live there and know much more about him than the little I've been exposed to. My lasting memory was on the first night of my arrival in town a few years back and meeting up with a few of the regulars, Irie, Seville, WW and a couple more, Ad served me a sambuca then lit it on fire. Once I downed that, I don't remember much after except for Irie getting me a ride back to my room and discouraging me from taking an attractive, but questionable, Haitiana with me in such a state. Good call by him because when I got back to my room, it was goodnight Irene in seconds.

If someone like Irie, Seville, WW, daddyooo, or others who either live there or spend a large amount of time there throughout the year, posts something about him, I'll place more stock in their opinion since they are in the arena, so to speak.

TBH, in that area of the beach, I'll much rather go to El Rey's Flip Flop Beach Bar instead. That is only a few shacks down from where Ad's new Punta Cana Bar is.
