I agree with you. With that attitude, you will have no problem meeting girls there. I have been going to Santiago
for three years now. I have met just as many chicas as I did in other areas.

My first time in Santiago, I was with a buddy who worked at our embassy [USA]. He drove us from SD to PP by way of Santiago. So I never officially stayed there, but liked the vibe. It was kind of a lack of tourist detox feeling. ;-)

Question: is it safe to walk from Matum to Ahi bar etc. in that area west of the monument?

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Although, it is very close to Matum, I would not walk there at night. Ahi bar is located on
one of the back streets near the monument and some of the streets are dark. There are locals that live in the
area too. Take a taxi, it is only $4 or 150 pesos.....

Santiago is not the place to be walking around by yourself at night.

When it was 50 to one and 2,000 for all night, I walked in, looked around and was out of there in 15 minutes with a spinner.

I have been to Santiago 5-6 times. I have read post similar to to yours in the past. Please tell us exactly where, in Santiago, you go for chicas and what you had to pay for them. Thanks.

Those were the good old days. I was there about two years ago; so, the pesos had changed a lot.

Well, I have been hitting Santiago hard for the past 3 years. I have never had a
bad trip there; but, I am going to pop my cherry in Santo Domingo this year. I have
met a few chicas in Santiago who live in Santo Domingo. They have invited me to
Santo Domingo; so, I am thinking about taking them up on their offer. And then too,
a lot of the girls in Santiago go to Santo Domingo a lot too.

I been there for a night here and there over the prior ten years and in 1999, I was in Moca so I hit Santiago nightly.

Well, when I was hanging out in Puerto Plata, I use to go to Jarabacoa and use to pass through Santiago. When I needed a change, I booked a flight
to Santiago and stayed there a week and learned my way around. I eventually found out where the chicas hang out and how things work there.

Since I started hitting the clubs/discos at night, I have had no problem meeting the chicas. They are there you just have to be able to speak Spanish
and be willing to talk to them for a little bit.

I went to Moca too with some chicas from Santiago. We had fun at a concert in a disco name Yudales (I think that is how you spell it).

    Mongers Guide

Natt I am considering doing a mongers guide to Santiago. I will in the Dominican Republic for over a month and plan to spend a great deal of time there, can you please elaborate on the aforementioned questions?

Since I can speak Spanish fairly well, I go to the discos ( Lovera, Level, Club 22 VIP, & Tabu), Puerto del Sol, and Ahi bar/disco. Those are my
main spots. You can also meet chicas in the casino at Matum. You do not have to gamble, just buy a drink, walk around, and say hi to one that
is alone. I would not recommend going to the monument to look for chicas ( you are asking for trouble ); but, the ones you are looking for are in
the bars and restaurants around the monument.

Santiago is not a place where you can just go and pick up a chica whenever you want. You need to know how to speak and understand Spanish
and you need to keep the numbers of the ones you do meet. As most of us know, a lot of them have boyfriends here in the States and elsewhere,
and just for the record, some of the boyfriends here in the States are Dominican. But, keep the numbers so that you can call them when you want
to see them and they will come. When you are in Santiago, you need to start thinking like a Dominican and how they do things. I learned how to
have good times in Santiago by talking to the Dominican guys in the club and having a few drinks with them.

I go to the places that I mentioned before, order food and drinks, and just hang out. If I see a girl that I am interested in, then I go and try to
talk to her and eventually ask her to join me and take it from there. I also believe in propinas. I will give the waiters or bouncers a nice propina
and ask him to see if the chica will give me her number -- most of the time it works. I have gotten numbers of chicas when they are with other
guys. I am not bragging; but, just trying to let you know how things work in Santiago. I have had waiters get the chica's number who are with
    me.

I do not pay chicas for a good time. I make donations to the economic empowerment fund for chicas. Donations depend on the chica
and you. Things are not cheap in Santiago. The more you know the chica the better off you will be. Also, the chicas that live within Santiago
are more high maintenance. If you can find a good dominican taxi, he will take you to the small towns outside Santiago. The donations are
more in line with what you may be looking for. I have been to the towns outside Santiago and have had a really good time; but, I like to go to
the club/disco, buy a bottle, smoke hookah, and look at the parade of Kim K. chicas that be in the discos.

When you are in Santiago, let me know and I will give you the number of my taxi brother that I use. I have known him now for almost 3 years.
He speaks fluent English and will not try to get over on you. He has been honest with me from the moment I met him. He will take you to PP,
Sousa, and anywhere else you want to go. He has taken me to Navarete, Banao, Moca, San Francisco, veragua, la vega, and puerto plata.
If he is unable to assist you, then he will send another taxi at the same rate that you and him worked out.

Regarding hotels, I have stayed at Matum, Hotel Platino, Aloha Sol, and Hotel Jardines. My preference is Aloha Sol.
All of them are the same; but, I stay at Aloha Sol because in the day, you are within walking distance of pretty much
everything you need. The hotel has never bothered me about bring one, two, or three chicas back to the room; however,
    they can charge you.

I have the numbers to Aloha Sol, Hotel Platino, and Century Plaza. If you want them let me know. I have not stayed
at Century Plaza because it is a little far away from everything; but the rooms are very nice and they have a night club
in the same plaza where it is located.

    Places near Aloha Sol:

Banco Popular and Progresso Bank ( go left when you exit the hotel ) - right across the street
Pizza Hut ( go right when you exit the hotel ) - 10 second walk
Orange, right across the street, and
Claro ( go right when you exit the hotel ) - right up the street about 2/3 minute walk
Money exchange agent ( go left when you exit the hotel ) - 2/3 minute walk towards McDonalds
McDonalds( go left when you exit the hotel ) - 2/3 minute walk.
La Sierna ( go left when you exit the hotel ) - about 5 minute walk
Public Park ( go left when you exit the hotel ) - about 10 walk maybe less, it is past la sierna - there are local girls there hanging out. but do not go past the park.
Pharmacy go left when you exit the hotel, it is past McDonalds on the opposite side of the street

There is also a sports bar near Aloha Sol. I can't tell you how to get there but, it is very close
maybe a block over. You can walk there in the day; but, not at night. They have some pretty
girls there and the Presidentes are freezing cold.

You will get the best rate at Aloha Sol, if you call them directly and make a reservation. If you call
them the rate for a regular room is 2100 pesos for the night and less if you pay them cash that includes
the dominican breakfast that they offer. I have met guys there that made reservations over the internet
and was paying over a $100 a night for the rooms. A lot of Dominicans stay there too. From October to
January the baseball teams stay there. I have met a lot of ball players that play baseball in the Dominican
leagues. Miguel Tejada's cousins invited me to hang out with them one night; but, I could not go because
I had made plans to take a couple of girls to Club 22. The only negative thing about all of the hotels is that
not all of them have a functioning safe. When you check in make sure that you ask them for a functioning
safe in the room and verify that the safe works before you pay them.

everything you need.

This is some good stuff, I am going to try to organize it for the Santiago Guide if you can think of anything else let me know.
