We've been hearing this same story ever since I started going back in 2009 and I'm sure even before that. Same hoes on the block from back then...only thing has changed is the generation of monger & some of the clubs/bars.

They just like to sound good, but they not gonna change anything.

It's always happy hour somewhere in the world...

Idea Re: 03/2017 - Body Blow to Sosua (The End is Near)

Things were radically different before. I first arrived in January 2004 that the Old Heads back then were saying the same thing.

In 2004/5 ALL the bars, restaurants were "open air, that is no walls so you got to see and be seen, feel the breeze, etc. The chicas were everywhere and there were hundreds of them. No exaggeration. They were on the street and actively propositioning people almost 24/7 lol

There were tons of bars and clubs and they were packed. There would be hundreds of people in the streets at night and the beach was BUSY. On Sundays you had a hard time finding a space at the beach.

Now a days most of the clubs are closed, the rest mostly enclosed and there is significantly less traffic and chicas. I'd say only 10-30% at best from at the peak that I experienced.

The good thing now is that there are tons more restaurants and most are very good....if mostly Italian

I'm not complaining but to say that nothing changes or nothing will change is not true. Sosua as a raw monger scene is a mere shadow of what it once was. It's the same story for Boca Chica which by many accounts was even crazier with the chicas back in the day...

I'm not saying Sosua is bad....it's still my favorite chica destination but it's dramatically different.

Re: 03/2017 - Body Blow to Sosua (The End is Near)

I hope they continue to push the in your face monger scene out. The guys who have no desire to learn spanish, no desire to adapt to thier surroundings, but rather force thier surroundings to adapt to them. I say good ridence!

Contrary to popular belief here, there are plenty of ex pats and snow birds to keep all the off the beaten path places going. When the curent scene gets cleaned up they will start to return in bigger numbers and it will be a nice balance of a more discreet monger to blend in with everyone else.

However its not just the new age monger whos the problem. The DR govt did irreversable damage ,imo, in the eyes of many when they went arrond locking up gringos. Also, the appreance of pedro clisante from rhumbas to dlatin is a disgrace. When burbon was closed it was even worse. Sights like that cant be unseen.

So a lot has to change, But I hope it does..

I think the point of no return has already been reached. This is one of the reasons I rarely go to Sosua accept for a day trip to the beach.

Funny story. I am in Florida right now so I can get my annual physical. I have a new doctor who is Korean. I told him I am only in town for a week because I live in the DR. He then proceeded to ask me if I lived in Sosua. He is familiar with the DR and the medical facilities there as he travels a few times a year with a group of doctors that provide free health services. The fact that sosua was the first place to come out of his mouth ... SMDH

They can start by getting rid of three fat putas in Boca Chica whose modus operandi is to try to get to your pockets by grabbing your dick. I've seen Politur detaining regular women just there to make a few pesos, but those three thieves they leave alone and they've been in BC for quite a few years now.

As I predicted in my earlier posts (I'll be bAAck!)

    Armando Casciati's welcome party

Armando Casciati invites everyone to celebrate his return to Sosúa with a big party (for free). The party takes place tonight (March 5) in the main hall of the Casino. It starts at 6 PM. Rubby Perez, the nationally renowned musician, and his band will perform during the party. Snacks and drinks are also for free.
Armando Casciati, the owner of the Merengue Club and Disco D'Clasico in Sosúa was forced to leave the country in September 2014. He fought this in court it seems he eventually won the trail. Armando Casciati is a big investor in Sosúa and owns several bars, nightclubs and hotels.

Yeah, i wasnt really talking about the atmosphere...more so the hoes being out there like described in the article. I got there on the tail end of the changes of the strip which I am grateful for. My only issue now is having to go outside of sosua to go to club to actually party & dance. Classicos is great for the grab n dash, but sometimes I just want to dance & have a good time without her asking for a tip for her time...LOL

I've been saying the same thing for years. Prostitution has always been accepted by the locals as long as folks were discreet about it.

Update: Yes I know we are a big group and a small one all at the same time. Guys that post on the various online websites can be in the thousands but I have only heard of 1 instance in which a guy has reported that when he was walking with a chica, they were stopped and the chica was detained. He reported that he went home alone although a little pissed. All other reports indicate that the party is still rocking in it's present form.

No major changes to the way business is done. The time limits are in place during the week and is extended on the weekends only in Sosua. In Caberete' it's an all night party!

Re: 03/2017 - Body Blow to Sosua (The End is Near)

PUERTO PLATA.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) Wednesday ordered the establishment of a temporary office in the tourist town of Sosúa, in the eastern part of the province of Puerto Plata, in order to facilitate the migration processes of hundreds of foreign nationals residing in the area. According to a note sent to the Puerto Plata Digital by the Office of Communications agency, it is indicated that the first of these offices will begin operations at the premises of the mayor of Sosúa on Wednesday, March 15 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, from Monday to Friday.

As part of a meeting with representatives of the different sectors linked to the institution in Sosúa, DGM authorities responded to concerns about the provisions of the General Law on Migration, No. 285-04, in particular, concerning the rights and duties of foreigners, periods of permanence, changes in immigration status and the documents and procedures required to be admitted as temporary or permanent residents.

In this sense, it was informed that the authorization of the Temporary Migration office will be extended, progressively, in the different tourist centers of the country, in order to facilitate the foreigners, regularization of their immigration status, whether these are students , temporary workers, temporary residents, permanent residents, or investors.

Likewise, it is specified that the meeting of the Migration authorities was attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Julio Almonte, the mayor of Sosúa, Ilana Neumann, as well as representatives of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Sosúa and Cabarete (ASHORESOCA) , the Association for the Sustainable Development of Sosúa (ADSS), and the Specialized Body in Tourism Security (CESTUR).

So the problem of illegal immigration is so bad in Sosua that they have to have a new office established in town. Not in Puerto Plata, not in Caberete,................. but in Sosua. I smell a new flavor of bullshit!! Those of you that live there; could you guys please enlighten us with "the rest of the story". Are they really targeting the monger community that is composed of expats & tourist as written or is this a prelude to a Haitian roundup.

I know this will make the people on DR1 who don't like the fact that so many people "live" in Sosua without seeking residency happy. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them had a hand in pushing for this.

Re: 03/2017 - Body Blow to Sosua (The End is Near)

There are many folks who live in Sosua, who applied for residency through the naturalization plan in 2015, and are still waiting for their cedulas and residencies. If this new office can expedite the paperwork, this could be a good thing. Going back and forth to Puerto Plata to be told "We will let you know" has been a bit frustrating. I don't imagine that this office will help those who choose to remain here without legal status.
