Just heard that Rumba is moving to the old Morua Mai restaurant up near the beach/casino. I understand that the landlord has tight connections with the mayor and she has approved it. Supposedly they are packing up today and on the move. That's the word....let's see. Everything makes less and less sense each day.

I used to enjoy that restaurant, liked doing breakfast there. Actually a nice spot, decent size, around the corner from Flip-Flop's.

Would be a good spot to stop after the beach.

Yes, I head about Rumba moving and re-opening in that spot yesterday, but I'm not putting much thought into or sharing anything til I see doors open with any of the closed places.

It just rained for about 40 minutes and I was waiting it out to run an errand. Noticed on the ride back that there was some good day game action walking up PC. Perhaps all the chicas were doing the same thing.

Anyway in the area around Super Super headed doewn toward Europa there are various groups of chicas in the stores, colmado etc...everyday. Some good day action for those looking for something randon.

They have been closed for renovations for nearly 2 years and never re opened.

Probably means they ran out of money.

The reality is there are not enough customers in town to support all the places to eat

Most of the remaing places on the strip are supported by a large ex-pat and snowbrid crowd. However, that place was more short term tourist priced--good food though. Not sure if Rumba/Kings could get the expat/snowbirds there or perhaps take some of the Bailey's crowd as well.

Morua Mai had tax and service charge added, and as I recall closed because an owner left, or sold the place or passed away, don't remember, but they did ok.

Is there any difference (zoning) for Rumba with their location and MM?

I still don't know on what legal terms the places were shut down.

Re: 07/2019 - Current situation in Sosua

Pretty good post from DR1....sounds pretty legit.

I'm doing a large project, not real estate, which has to be approved by the DR gubmint, and requires the approval and assistance of numerous top Ministries.

In the last few years, especially the last 8 months, I've had to meet with some pretty powerful people, not because I want to rub shoulders, but I have to for my project. Many here on DR1 know who, why and some know when (especially the small victories .)

In all this interaction, some of which requires the word "Sosua" as a destination, I have never once offered any opinion of the town, mongering, or anything remotely similar to these people.

I can give you a few takeaways from what *they* have said that you can take or leave:

The local officials, the mayor, etc. are minor players. By the way the DR is structured, they take orders from above. If anything, *some* local officials have been slow-walking the orders of these national officials.

The current DR Ministers think Sosua and Boca Chica are national embarrassments. They may be hypocrites, yada, yada, yada, but that does not mean they don't find Sosua a national embarrassment.

Tourism strongly thinks that prostitution in Sosua has badly hindered local economic development for years.

I learned six months ago the hammer was going to be dropped on Sosua as a sex-tourist destination, and even tried giving DR1ers a heads' up. I was mocked and ridiculed which didn't bother me at all. And voila-six months later the hammer got dropped.

Now I don't pretend to know what the future holds in Sosua next month or 1, 5 or 10 years, have no dog in that fight, have no interest in the area beyond an occasional pass-through and have no "inside scoop" on any development projects or plans. The locals know better.

But what I can tell you with great confidence is that the power folks in Santo Domingo are very serious about "cleaning up" Sosua. And it is an election year. You can do some simple math and take my observations for what they are worth: everything or nothing.

A wise man would plan accordingly.

    Enjoy the show.

Youtube interview (Miko) with the mayor of Sosua today.

Nothing more than a 20 minute PR session for the mayor, as the interviewer was only interested in obtaining more subscribers, then real fu(&ing questions.

I know its easy playing Monday morning quarterback with an interview session like Miko's one, but what good is it to ask a girl to dance, then leave her on the floor 10 seconds after both of you start?

Is that what he did, I haven't watched it, maybe later. But I thought it was a good get, to get an interview with the Mayor who is the figurehead of what's happening in Sosua. Maybe I will make some time to watch it if I get some free time .

The poster on DR1 Cobraboy is pretty reputable. He lives in Jarabacoa and has a motorcycle business there. He's American I believe. I wouldn't post that if he wasn't told that about the changes in Sosua.

when i ate there, the tax and sercice charge were included in the menu price, but separated out in the final bill. so if the menu price was 100 pesos for a dish, the final bill would show 72 pesos for the dish and 28 pesos for the tax and sercice charges. As time went on perhaps that changed.
The owner is still there, he was running the seafood paella restaurant across the street from NY little pizza, which for a while beame Toro 2 or something, run by a different person. My last trip in October, I saw the Mora Muai owner fixing that place up, he said he was opening it again. Mora Muai was still closed then. His name is Rafael, has been in Sosua a long time.

I thought Cobraboy is Reel Deal here on ISOC. I do not think he logs on here anymore.
