What I find just selfish is how some of the monied expats on DR1 push so enthusiastically for the commercialization of Sosua beach. Those folks don’t give a damn about what the beach means to the locals or the tourists. They only care about their property values which they believe will increase if the playa looks like a cookie cutter beach in the US of Canada.

dont many of the beach shacks or restaurants have leases from the ayuntamento? if they have those, how can they be called illegal?

I know I know this is the D.R., and worse, this is Sosua!

Of the shacks and were going to build areas at either end of the beach that could be rented

There was such an uproar by the people running the shacks that it was dropped for now

Gotta believe the day is coming when they show up with bulldozers and its going to be a very bad day for some i am afraid

They cant totally shut down access to the beach since as you said all beaches in the dr are public
All you have to do is drive by on the highway and see the fence that has been built the entire length of the beach property to know that something is a brewing. They can certainly shut off access to the beach if they own the land on both sides of the beach, happens all the time, happens sometimes when they DON'T own the land on both sides. Think Sosua Ocean Village,Seahorse Ranch,Lifestyles etc.,etc..Try to go swimming on the beach at Seahorse Ranch if you don't live there or are a guest and see how fast you will have a shotgun shoved in your face, legal or not. The most recent rumor that I have heard is that the Dominican family that owns the land between the highway and the beach stalls has sold to a foreign investor and they plan to build a hotel and condos, just a rumor. There will be some shit stirred up if or when the day comes that they bulldoze those beach stalls but my guess is that it is coming sooner rather than later, the land is just too valuable for development and they are all squatters. To anyone that thinks it can't happen just think of what happened at Long Beach and Encuentro, money talks in the DR,laws be damned.

Dom Rep is one of the few LA countries that almost (since 1965) avoided serious social conflicts, and I attribute it to certain extent to the nature of terrain and the country's geography. But I won't bet it continues this way in perpetuity. Just look westwards at Haiti which is a no go. Push people too much for too long and then you wake one day in a present scenario of Venezuela.

So the old After 1--new club opened as scheduled this past Saturday. We went early about 11pm and stayed til 12-12:30 after seeing that it probably wasn't going to get popping. A few random chicas, Dominican dudes and others walked in and out basically while we were there. This place--really this casino as a while seems like it will always have some of the more shady hustler types around.

Playa Chiquita - we got there mad early becase of so much rain at night, I didn't want to go to Ahnvhee and get stuck. Ahnvhee is terrible when it rains because everyone crowds around the dining areas and it's really difficult to order food or drinks and it's like everyone is just in waiting mode for the rain to stop. Then once it does, you can go outside, but all the tables and chairs are soaked so you can't resume that outdoor relaxation. Playa Chiquitat had a pretty nice crowd once it got going. Enough people, but not too packed.

Went to the beach Saturday for the fist time in 5-6 weeks since my foot injury. Thee were a decent amount of people eating and drinking, not many on the beach, but it was late afternoon. Saw a decent amount of chicas walking around as well. Not a bad day for lunch at the beach all in all.

Was in Ahnvee last night with the favorita, Sunday, after arriving in town. Wanted to see it as I had never been in the place. Interesting setup, as a hotel it would be great if it was on a beach somewhere!
2 pools that i saw, one with a bar and a dj and the other maybe a dining area with a large screen or projection tv. guys and chicas at both. No cover, 150 pesos per small presidente. Lots of chicas (at least it seems that way as they are all in one place) Some pretty hot. and then it rained....hahah like toro says, then everyone crowds into the area that has a ceiling. I think we left around 10, went to Copacabana to eat something (it was early and raining, nobody else there), home by 11.

    .

Are they setup in the casino area to the left or are they in the area that used to be the night club to the right.

No casino tables, machines there any longer?

    Could be a decent space.

The club is to the right when you walk in through the casino. Looks just like it did before. Tables and chairs in front, bar in the middle and more talble and chairs and bar in the back.

They still have machines and card tables. Soem gambling still going on there.

The Mayor invited several business owners on Pedro Clisante to a meeting this week.

Joly Rogers, Matteo's and Mamajuama Cafe were the only ones that showed up. The mayor wants the restaurants to come up with ideas to come up with ideas to bring action back to Pedro Clisante. I'm guessing some sort of PG-13 stuff. Tomorrow is supposed to sbe some sort of street festival. You may see some street closures and random daytime events. It won't be like BC closing the streets at night for adult fun.......Not sure if they think bringing a water slide or dog and pony show is the answer or something else. Anyway we will see.

    Exactly.

She mentioned before that Dominicans don't spend any money, but thinks that they can do something in the daytime that will attract famlies etc...to spend money. Last I checked, Sunday is family day at the beach and how much do they spend there??

The woman wants to have her cake and eat it too. She’s got her wish. Hoes are off the street. Mission accomplished. She seems to believe that once the johns were gone the families would teleport in to replace them. How silly.

Not exactly. Still quite a few stragglers out there to be seen on PC all hours of the day. Just not bunches in any one area like before.

LOL. Yes, there are many more questionable stragglers than considerable options by far, but I'm not disputing the quality or lack of. I have seen some decent quality here and there, but none that I will give a roster spot to.

I'm just saying that if the goal was to get hoes off the street, there is still workk to be done.
