09/2019 - Hotel Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando, Santo Domingo

Hotel Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando, Santo Domingo

Hotel Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando is located in the Colonial Zone right around the corner from Hotel Hodelpa Caribe Colonial. It looks to be a refurbished colonial building that is now defiantly a 4 star hotel.

Check in went smooth. As usual I booked for two, however the receptionist advised extra guest were $50.00 per person.

I chose to speak in Spanish although the staff was bilingual. I was interesting because the receptionist who was serving me had difficulty understanding me but her co-worker standing next to her understood everything I said and had to translate...I guess I shoulda just spoke English hunh?...haaaaaaaaaaa

It was a very nice lobby area and I was greeted with cookies and a wine glass of sparkling apple cider.

Outside the reception area there is a bar and pool table

There is an outdoor section of the restaurant and inside along with a pool and gymnasium

The room was very comfortable with a king size bed strong WIFI and a great view of the park outside.

    View from my window

There is a plaza and park next to the hotel which is a social gathering place for locals and tourist alike

    Conclusion

The staff was very professional and accommodating. I only ate dinner which was decent with good service. I skipped breakfast because it was $30.00 per person, I have no idea what they could offer for that amount of money.

I would describe this hotel as a better date location than mongering location. Unless you are dealing with a high class pro I see no reason to treat her to this type of luxury. The hotel makes a great date location because the grounds are immaculate and there is a decent restaurant, bar, pool gym and seating area where you can entertain your date.

Although I enjoyed every part of the hotel, what I enjoyed most was the vicinity outside the hotel, the park and the overall vibe of the Colonial Zone. The Colonial Zone is one of the safest parts of Santo Domingo because there is such a concentrated police presence.

I got a Booking.com deal on a normally $160.00 room for just over $100.00 I enjoyed the experience and would likely return.
