    Re: Hotel Riazor

I have stayed there three times and have always been very happy. The location is great, Lapsus is half a block away and the Jaragua is right across the street, After midnight the girls on Independencia and their chulos get very aggressive.

Beads, they'd have to reprint their menus every two weeks if it was in pesos.

    I understand your mindset, however.

In some places, that's a hugh red flag, but for a minibar in a hotel, I do the math, come up with a more or less, and am good to go.

Minibar prices at Riazor are pretty reasonable, compared to some of the other places I've been to.

Even I drank from the mini bar, and thats a first for me (too cheap) The breakfast is simple, an omellete or two eggs with juice, toast and coffee. You have to go next door for this.

Don’t worry, most of us are always sleeping at breakfast time anyway, actually I’ve never had a single breakfast while on mongering operations in my life – the mongering scene always seems to blossom at night, so we have to adapt to that timetable.

On the other hand, what about the bug factor? Any roaches around in this place?

I hate roaches, so this is one of my usual questions…

I saw one small bug in the bathroom tub. But I did not see any roaches.

    Hey guys

Here are a few pictures of Manolo Cafeteria (located right next to Riazor Hotel).

After midnight, a lot of chicas from Lapsus, The Girl’s House, as well as streetwalkers hang out on Independencia Ave. and in front of this restaurant looking for customers.

This is an outdoor restaurant and it is open 24/7.

Its nice to eat, drink, and check the chicas out.

We were going there next week, but Marriott has a $69 night special and we want a pool.

It is better than no pool. And $69 a night is a sweet price.

I'm not understanding why they would have to reprint the menus every two weeks if the price was in pesos.

You're buying the item in the DR. Their economy is based on the Peso. Therefore, all prices there should be in Pesos. If the dollar rises, at some point, it might cause inflation and prices, generally would rise. If the dollar falls, they get a bonus, for awhile, until deflation takes over and prices fall.

However, the way that they do it. The dollar is falling, yet, they don't lower prices, even though they get more for the dollar now. I'm sure, however, that if the dollar began to rise, they would raise the prices.

If they would have to change prices every two weeks because of the change in the Peso-Dollar ratio, they would have to do the same thing with the Dollar-Peso ratio. Why would it be any different.

Their reasoning would be like my saying that you will have to come visit me because it's too far for me to go visit you. Unless you have some special powers, the distance from me to you is the same as from you to me.

Beads is right. That's just their excuse to gouge you. If prices are listed in a different currency than the country, they are cheating you. There is no more to it.

I can't say that is their reasoning, since I've never been told that. But I have heard it in other businesses. It's often said in a semi joking manner.

But.If you print a menu in dollars, you usually don't have to redo it at all, unless your costs go up or down. And yes, I understand they do, irregardless of which currency your using.

The printing prices in Dollars pretty much started back in Hipolito's days, when the exchange rate was going bonkers. Check out prices of new vehicles nowadays, more often than not, they're in dollars.

Also, since many clients of Manolo's are foreigners, there is a certain comfort level to seeing prices in dollars.

You can't begin to imagine how many times I've been asked "and how much is that in dollars" when I had my taxi business.

When it's in dollars, it's much easier to decide if you're going to pass on something.
