Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito has instructed the Prosecutor General of the Appeals Court of the judicial department of San Cristobal to avoid being accused of impunity in relation to the case of inmate Pedro Castillo who is requesting a modification of his sentence. Castillo appealed to Magistrate Jesus Fernandez Velez and Dominguez Brito said that the necessary decisions will be taken but avoiding at all costs accusations of impunity in favor of Castillo. Dominguez Brito said that some of the previous decisions by the magistrate who oversees the sentences have caused him concern, because the cases require that the state be "firm and coherent." The Attorney General took a similar position in the recent appeal by Luis Alvarez Renta to be sent to house arrest. It was denied, as reported El Nuevo Diario.
