As low as $369. Interesting. Would certainly work better for me as EWR is a lot easier/cheaper to get to than JFK. More destinations from EWR = better. EWR-MDE would be gold.

Nice. Never flown JB but may now. And even if I don't hopefully it will help keep prices from getting any WORSE.
Finally................ More weekends in STI......
Aaaaand United is matching!
United adding EWR-STI nonstop daily flights starting this Summer.
Can you say 'price war'? This is great news!We plan to introduce daily service, utilizing Boeing 737-900 aircraft, leaving Newark Liberty at 9:00 a.m. and arriving in Santiago at 12:55 p.m. The return flight will depart Santiago at 1:50 p.m., arriving at Newark Liberty at 5:55 p.m. (all times local). The route will open for sale once regulatory approval is granted. The new service will be timed to provide roundtrip connectivity with Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Isnt that Amazing.. United, (formerly the Continental Planes and Routes) used to PRICE GOUGE like $800 - $1,000 on average for a Flight to the DR from Newark.. I guess cause NJ people are more RICH than those NY'rs living near JFK ?
In comes Jet Blue, same Route, and United has to DROP their Prices or KEEP their seats empty
. Isnt that amazing..
And some of you people still dont LOVE true Capitalism & true Free Market at work ?
I for one will give my business to Jet Blue.. United can go suck a bag of Dicks before they get a dime from me.
(i know...... i need a trip)
otoh, the only reason JetBlue picks any routes up is because they're already popular, and by the time a route is popular, there's usually more competition for it and therefore lower prices.
I'd bet that if fares were ever 800-1000 on average to the DR from EWR it was because it just wasn't a popular tourist destination. Less popular destinations = less flights or more empty seats = less competition = higher prices. That's why you can fly to any popular destination in the Caribbean for under/around $400, but try getting to Martinique or Dominica for under $800 - but at least you can get to those places with the majors, the regionals like JetBlue don't fly there at all (but they may if/when the majors pave the the way for them first).
I love JetBlue, but their ff program sucks so I'd honestly prefer not to use them.
The Jet Blue FF program does suck; but, you just can't beat their schedule
out of JFK. You can catch a flight almost any time of the day or night going
or returning. For example, if you are up for a weekend trip, you can catch
the 9 pm flight on friday and come back on Sunday night for Santiago. That
is if you like Santiago.
The only thing that I wish they would do is stop the Dominicans from bringing
five bags with them as carry on and then buying five bottles of whiskey and
trying to put it in the overhead bin.
Great news Deezl. Thank you. Tourism to the DR keeps growing year after despite the downturn in many parts of the world.
Now I am hoping Southwest starts expanding their Caribbean destinations later this year to cities in the DR other than Punta Cana. STI or POP would be amazing. Two additional flights to POP at a price under $550 from the USA from any airline would transform the North Coast.... It doesn't take much more tourist traffic here to make a big impact now.
Was looking for this 2nd post to report the following. Didnt remember that it was in this Jetblue thread, glad I looked. United actually has RT's in October for $324 RT. On United you can also upgrade to business class using a regional upgrade.
United is definitely flying that route cheaper right now, even when I have seen STI on sale the last few weeks for the sept and oct period the lowest price I saw was for SDQ $335 RT and that was through JFK. This EWR Route is the cheapest i've seen a RT to DR in the last 2 years.
I actually checked on ITA and Jetblue is also running the same route for an identical price. If you chose Jetblue you could earn 5,000 to 10,000 additional points thanks to a Promotion they have running. I believe Deezl posted it in this same subforum section. Great Deal.
Last edited by Dave Diaz; 08-23-2014 at 10:09 PM. Reason: Jetblue having the same Route on sale. Same Price
And ladies and Gentlemen those flights are officially gone. If you got one last night or the day before you got lucky. United is showing the same flights priced at $384 now and jetblue too. Only ones with a lower price would be AA with their crazy layover route or spirit.
jetblue will probably have some sort of sale this week.

I'm looking forward to seeing how low it goes. I'm happy with my ticket though and glad I picked up yesterday. Depending what Jetblue throws out there might pick up one more because I am quite bummed about missing out on the 5k promo.
Who are these airline experts you speak of?
Jetblue has had sales every week for the last couple of weeks, maybe last 3-4 weeks. They even had a weekend sale earlier this month. I don't know what would be so special about 8/26 but we will see. I expect a sale but for a super low price? I can't wait.
The airfare you paid on this itinerary totals: 178.00 USD The taxes, fees, and surcharges paid total: 145.20 USD
I want to see that airfare price drop under $150 for a RT for a nice $300 fare.
After Labor Day is when you get the best prices to DR from September to December.
I cant find the article, but as you said LABOR day used to be THE date, but the Airline Industry is moving it up supposedly to 8/25 for some reason.. (maybe cuz more kids are going to College in August ? camp is over , etc)
We will find out soon enough, tomorrow if its accurate or not....
The special DR sale just announced!!!!

that is weird. when i read the promo prices it said it was just the base fare, taxes and fees were not included in the price shown.
i thought advertising in this way was no longer legal. regardless the prices look pretty much the same. 350 to 400 level despite the advertisement of a 112 one way to sdq and 116 one way to sti from nyc area. without the taxes included of $130 for a rt it is quite deceiving.
