A Stroll Through Boca Chica Along Duarte

These pictures were take during my early morning walks through Boca Chica. The pictures are organized as you walk from the eastern end of Duarte towards the western end of Duarte. Hopefully the pictures will be giving you some feeling about Boca Chica and Duarte.

The Hamaca Beach Resort is located at the eastern end of Duarte. Just half a block from the resort, Restaurant DaNancy will be on the north side of the street. The restaurant is on the second floor. I went to the restaurant twice. I once had some seafood pasta that was absolutely delicious, and the second time I had some pizza that was not particularly good. I recommend to stay with the seafood pasta.

After crossing calle Caracol you will see some restaurants on your right hand side (north) on Duarte, including La Terraza de Pilar and D'Lucien:

There is also a little street side bar:

On the opposite side of the street (south side) you will find the back entrance to The Boat House that is a very nice boat shaped bar and restaurant on the beach just by the water. The picture was taken facing east:

    To be continued.

When continuing to walk east along Duarte in Boca Chica you will see the Isla Bonita building on your left side (south). There is a restaurant, Dapathan (sp?), serving a good breakfast with freshly baked bread every morning. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner:

On the right hand side of the restaurant (still the Isla Bonita building) a juice bar will shortly open. I met the owner who is an American and a really cool guy. The working name of the place is Joocers. They will serve fruit drinks, smoothies, batidas, and protein shakes.

You can also access to the Isla Bonita bar that is located on the beach side of the building, by walking through the building. The Isla Bonita bar location is great, just by the water. All the waitresses are dressed in very stylish and sexy sailor outfits and it's a great place to just relax.

After Isla Bonita, you will eventually see Piano Plaza on your left hand side on Duarte (north). The place war really popular when I was in BC and there used to be a good crowd every evening:

On the left side of the Piano Plaza there is a restaurant with a bar. I never figured out the name of the restaurant and I never saw a sign with the name. Some days the restaurant was busy, on other days it was slow with few guests:

On the corner of Duarte and Dominguez you will find the American Bar. During my stay, people tended to gather by the outside tables in the early evening and by midnight leave for the clubs:

The American Bar is located in the same building as Hotel Europa. The main hotel entrance is located on Dominguez:

On the opposite side of the street (Dominguez) you will find Hotel Madejra:

    To be continued.

Re: A Stroll Through Boca Chica Along Duarte

After Piano Plaza and American bar you will soon reach Parque Central when you walk along Duarte in Boca Chica. The yellow building on the right (north) is a small mercado:

There are a lot of motoconchos by Parque Central and the guaguas stop here also (on the north side of the park, by the church):

You will find street walkers in the park in the evening. It gets a little dark in the park in the evening but I never felt unsafe walking through the area. However, it could be good to show some precaution if you are drunk and walking there alone in the early morning hours.

Continuing west on Duarte you will pass the post office (Correo) whis is a small blue wooden building and a farmacia (both on your right side). Eventually you will reach Hotel Burbujas, it will also be on your right hand side. The Burbujas nightclub is located on the right side of the hotel entrance. The club was not that popular when I was in BC:

Across the street from Hotel Burbujas is the Don Juan Beach resort. Further west on Duarte there is a little park with a playground area for small children.

I hope that these pictures might be of help to anyone who is planning to visit Boca Chica for the first time. Just keep in mind that things change fast: names of restaurants; what club is hot or not; and if places are open or have closed. A map of BC can be found on this website: http://bocachicabeach.net/map.html

It would be great if we all could add pictures from BC and Duarte over time when new places open up or change name/remodel.

I love BC. I see a pic of Playa Vista I believe ("for Helpmann"?). Where is it located and how do you get there?

yeah that's Playa Vista. if you coming to the beach from Europa make a right, pass the pizzeria and it's right there on the beach.

honestly i've never been there. usually i get up, few Presidentes, eat lunch at the pizzeria (i have great pics of the place but they're too large for imageshack) swim of the ramp where they park boats (have pics too) coz the water there is 6'+ deep, rest of the beach is all waist deep, then stroll down to Pink Pig (beach bar where "MORE FOR MR. JAY" pic is taken) and assassinate few more Presidentes. Helpmann can give you more info on Playa Vista. it's his favorite spot.

Playa Vista is pretty cool, I hang out there just about every weekend.

Don't order the food though, their prices are absolutely obscene. Ten dollars for a plate of rice and beans, and it gets worse from there.

But, it is a very tranquil place to hang out and watch the eyecandy.

I also hung out at Playa Vista they have a new attendant Steven which is very attentive-the old attendant Flaco is next door. Drinks are very reasonable, but be very careful at all the beach places for food, make sure you see a menu with prices printed.
