I am trying to book El Colibri for 6 days in late February, but their email says they want 50% up front. I have never stayed at this hotel or paid in advance on any hotel in the DR. Can this hotel management be trusted?????
I've stayed there a few times and just booked another stay starting this Fri. Never had a problem, There web site is a little outdated. They gave me 10% off when they replied. I think that was for 7 days or more and another 5% for after I mentioned ISCO. So I got 15% off. So yes imo they can be trusted and never heard of anyone else having a problem with a deposit.
Here is there cancellation policy:
In case of cancellation: If cancelled from the date of the deposit up to two nights
before the date of arrival, 50 percent of all nights will be charged. In case of
cancellation two nights before arrival and in case of no-show, the total price
of the reservation will be charged.
Is there really a need to pay anything in advance? There are very few times when you would find it difficult to easily find a good room in Sosua as a walk and the hotel owners know this. They're just trying to lock you in because times are tough.
Putas are like lottery tickets, sometimes you get a winner sometimes you get a loser.
I'd rather be at Piero's anyway!!
I was at colibri 5 times and Piero' s 3 times.
Rooms are larger at colibri
Apartments look better at piero's
Colibri's bed are more confortable than rock hard beds at piero's
Piero's closer
Colibri's pool is bigger and cleaner than piero's
Piero's restaurant is better and friendlier.
Security at Colibri is much better.
Cuba libre is right across the street from Colibri
There's a litlle market across the street from Piero's
Prices are about the same
So depends on whats important for you.
I prefer colibri but i like both of them
Thats very good side by side comparison Michel... thanks for that info. very useful to know.. Some things are very important to some guys, but not to others..
You still in town ?
If I was choosing between the two, having a comfortable bed to sleep on instead of a rock hard one would close the deal for me. Colibri by a nose.
Another issue i have with Piero's is security.
On my last trip, i had a chica with me and we ordered food on the phone from one of her motoconcho friend. I taught he would call when he would be at the hotel so we can go get the food at the gate. Instead he knocked at my rooms door on the third floor to deliver our food at 3 am. I was angry and told the chica never to do that again or i throw her out the door and never call her again.
Enjoy it while you can.
